Last updated: August 2026. Plotluck is a small, free, personal project for deciding what to watch with friends. These terms are written in plain language on purpose.
Plotluck lets two or more people join a shared "room" using a short code, swipe on movies or TV shows, and see a match when everyone (or enough of the group) likes the same title. It's a free tool — there is no paid tier, no subscription, and nothing to purchase anywhere in the app.
There's no sign-up, login, or password. When you first open Plotluck, your browser generates a random ID that's used to remember your taste (your likes and watch history) across sessions. That ID lives on your device — if you clear your browser storage, switch devices, or use a different browser, you'll look like a new person unless you restore your profile with a sync code from inside the app. Plotluck has no way to verify who is actually swiping under any given name or ID, and doesn't try to.
Use Plotluck the way it's meant to be used — to pick something to watch with people you actually know. Specifically, don't:
Rooms and rate limits exist to keep the service usable for everyone; we may throttle or block traffic that looks abusive.
Title information comes from TMDB, and streaming availability is powered by JustWatch. Plotluck is not endorsed or certified by either. That data can be incomplete, delayed, or wrong — a title might show as available somewhere it no longer is, or be missing details. Always confirm on the actual streaming service before you rely on it.
Plotluck is provided as-is and as-available, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. That means no promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at all — it's a hobby project run on a single small server, and it can go down, lose a room, or have bugs.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Plotluck and its operator aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including a ruined movie night, lost room data, or a bad recommendation. Plotluck is free, so use it accordingly: as a helpful tool, not a guarantee.
Rooms are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity, and crews ("keep the crew together" groups) after 90 days — see the Privacy Policy for details. You can delete your own data at any time with the "Delete my data" button in the app. We may also remove or block access for anyone abusing the service as described above, without notice.
These terms may change as the app changes. If they do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Plotluck after a change means you accept the updated terms.
